FILMMAKER
Hi, I’m Julie Eshbaugh. I grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. When I was a teenager, I got involved with drama, and – to my parents’ great distress – I decided I wanted an acting career. After high school, I moved to New York City, where I studied theater at Marymount Manhattan College, the New York Shakespeare Academy, and the Robert Collier School.
I moved back to Bucks County in my early twenties, and completed my bachelor’s degree at Rider University, where I became interested in creative writing. My writing has appeared in Venture, The Writing on the Wall, The Kelsey Review, Manna, The Literary Writer, The Forum, and The Legal Intelligencer. I loved writing, but something was missing. Writing can be lonely, and I missed the human element of theater.
In the late 90s, I read an article about a local guy who had made a short film, and I went to his screening. That evening I realized that filmmaking embodied a balance of writing and theater.
My first short film, Damages, was completed in 2001. It wasn’t very good, but I learned a lot! Soon after, I began working on a second short film, The Drunkard, which was completed in 2004.
